ACCS Chess Club Brings Home Another Trophy

ACCS Chess team in association with SUNY Student Association hosted a tournament on Saturday, November 2, 2013.  Our team moved up again, winning the 4th place award. Individual awards were Xavier-2nd and Haki-3rd place and Destin had his first win of the season. Overall, the event was highly competitive and the team did their best. Special thanks to Ms. McCarthy for ‘holding down’ the concession stand and helping the team to raise about $300. Special thanks also to Mrs. Ralph, Ms. Gordon and all the parents for their contributions and support. The next event will be December 7th at MLK Magnet School in Schenectady.

ACCS Drama Club Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

On Saturday, November 2nd, 2013, Ms. Burt and Mr. Lajas took 5 ladies from the 7th grade and one of our former students to the Latino Youth Conference at Siena College. Mr. Lajas led workshops and the club facilitated a Youth Speak Out.   The conference is an annual event that is put on by the Black & Latino Achievers Program (B.L.A.P) of the Capital District YMCA.   The ladies participated in many workshops throughout the day, a youth Speak Out, and a Talent Showwhere they competed against mostly High School students.

They created a skit that same day, performed it, and they won FIRST PLACE!

Please congratulate Ms. Burt and the following students when you see them:

  1. Ondia Logan
  2. Aaliyah Fisher
  3. Alexa Arias
  4. Skyy Rivas
  5. Kemoya Whyte
  6. Amara Taylor (She graduated from ACCS)

Ask them about their experience. We plan on bringing more students next year and we’re thinking of planning our own Youth Conference
